Everyone has unlimited capacity for compassion. It is not reserved for a select few. It is a gift of the human spirit. Is this true for you?
When compassion fatigues us…it is no longer compassion.
Let that land. Does this ring a bell for you or stir up resistance?
When we feel tired and drained, it is a sign that we have moved from our spiritual resources to our human reserves. We have disconnected from our Self.
What does compassion feel like in your body?
“Our human compassion binds us the one to the other – not in pity or patronizingly, but as human beings who have learnt how to turn our common suffering into hope for the future.” Nelson Mandela
This is such a powerful statement! What do you think?
Can you identify the role that false responsibility and worry play in the development of “compassion fatigue?”
Gabor Mate talks about cultivating “compassionate curiosity.” This involves a genuine desire to understand. We can take this approach with others and ourselves. How would you describe “compassionate curiosity?”
“Compassion. Giving of self with the realization that you are in effect giving to self. Compassionate people ask you what you need and then respond to your request, not to what they think you should have.” Iyanla Vanzant
Another BIG statement that really got me reconsidering how I defined compassion. What comes up for you?
How do you demonstrate compassion to yourself and others?
Food for Thought: Compassion is connective. Compassion is energy. Compassion energizes because it comes from a place of love. Compassion does not come from us as human beings. It comes through us as an expression of spirit. What are your feelings?
