One of the greatest rewards of Self-Connection includes those moments of epiphany. The exhilaration that comes with suddenly seeing something you couldn’t see before is energizing and actually quite challenging to describe. It is like having the blinders come off when you didn’t even realize that you had them on the first place.
Sometimes, those moments are accompanied with an equally awe inducing external situation that marks the event in some grand way whether for better or worse.
Sometimes, the moments are so quiet they are almost silent.
I was talking with a wonderful woman recently, and she put it in such a way that made so much sense and also made me laugh out loud. She talked about expecting the awareness, the insight, and the moments of clarity to come marching down the street with banners waving.
We laughed at ourselves. How often we ask questions or seek to solve a problem and start looking for this grand gesture or cataclysmic event to occur that will definitively point us in the right direction. We expect a parade. We expect it to cross our emails with the exact instructions to follow for success.
It usually doesn’t happen that way. Sometimes, it does. We have to stay on the lookout and keep looking within.
Most of us can recall those times when our life was suddenly changed. We remember so many details of the moment. We can conjure up the feelings we had, the thoughts we were thinking, what was happening in our bodies. Because it often feels as though time stands still in moments of enlightenment. And in those moments, we are self-connected and present.
Miracles in The Mundane
But, it is not necessary to have the earth move in order to get with yourself. To experience self-connection begins first with an intention to go there ~ or maybe, better said ~ to arrive here. Here within your being.
There are endless opportunities in the mundane details of our lives that invite us to connect to ourselves ~ to our physical sensations, our thoughts, our feelings, our emotions, our interpretative nature, our breath. Every moment provides that possibility. All we do is enter into it and see what’s there.
It can help to set the stage when we first open our eyes in the morning ~ to take a moment to tune into our physical sensations, to check our thoughts and our emotions, to express gratitude for the day, to ask for guidance or support. Think about how you would greet someone you love first thing in the morning and then shower yourself with that same affection.
As the day goes on, and you find yourself knee deep in your tasks and duties, you can create space for those moments of connection ~ to tune in and be with you and your experience alone for a second. Think about what you might do to steal a few seconds with a hot new lover and come at yourself with the same energy.
Before you close your eyes at the end of the day, tuck yourself in like a little child, in ways that will help you rest, encourage sweet dreams, and soothe and comfort you. Ask yourself what was the best part of your day and what you need to feel better about the parts that sucked. Be your own security blanket and teddy bear.
Enjoy the fanfare of those lightening bolt moments of awareness with all your heart! And be equally as excited for those quiet revelations that come in the still moments.
Because this is it. These are the moments of your life right here and right now. You decide how many of them you will be here for. It is the presence in the day-to-day moments that make your life rich. The out of the ordinary are the icing on the cake.
Be right by your own side ~ hand in hand ~ for the whole trip!
