I know I have said it before – “the only constant is change.” This has the potential to strike terror in the hearts of anyone, especially, if we are currently enjoying a state that we wish would last forever.
I have come to realize that it is very true. As much as certain aspects of our lives – even our beings – might seem to stay the same over the years, things around us change – even if we don’t notice the minute shifts that occur within.
We are all in a process of evolution. What we believed twenty years ago might be radically different when compared to the ideas we ascribe to now or maybe, we continue to hold steady with certain belief systems and habits. It seems to me that the things that have really stuck for me are often those things that are most in need of a good shake-up!
Experience Your Evolution
Sometimes, things change so slowly – including you and me – that it seems almost impossible to really take notice of the shifts.
I can recall lightbulb moments following some event when it struck me that the choice I had just made or the response I had just experienced is something that I never would have considered two years earlier. Something had changed inside of me and I wasn’t aware of it until I was called to action. And then it was perfectly clear.
As helping professionals, we are often involved with people who are on the brink of change. Perhaps, they have made a conscious decision to alter some aspect of their lives or maybe, change showed up uninvited. Either way, our hope is usually to assist in that person’s graceful evolution.
I bet in these moments, you are motivated to be a source of support, inspiration, encouragement and comfort as this person experiences their own change process. You might even be asked to share your observations of their evolution – those subtle changes that they may not be aware of.
As you experience your own evolution, you can become a light to others in their own process. You become more highly attuned to those little changes – that little bit of growth – the expanded perspective. Living in the thick of your personal evolution better equips you to support others in their process.
